Semester Project

For my semester project, I decided to make a Flickr account to post some of my pictures from when I studied abroad sophomore year. I was in Reading, England first semester and then Thessaloniki, Greece the second. I traveled a lot while I was there and here are just a few of my pics.

NCAA Tournament now comes to YouTube!!!

This article was from March of 2007, but thought it was still interesting especially for us college students who are interested in college athletics. Read it and provide some comments if you would like.

CBS has announced a deal with YouTube in which the TV network will launch CBS Sports NCAA Tournament Channel on the YouTube site. The channel, to be sponsored by Pontiac, will feature NCAA tournament game clips and highlights, uploaded by College Sports Television (a unit of CBS) in near real time, from the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, which begins airing today (March 15) on CBS. The site will also show postgame press conferences and other tournament video produced by CBS Sports.

The channel will also include links to CBS Sports, CBS Sportsline, CSTV and the NCAA’s official Web site, NCAASports.com, which will facilitate fans moving back and forth from YouTube to the full games being shown online through NCAA March Madness on Demand.

“Through this agreement, CBS is monetizing its content on the Internet and proving that world-class programming can help bring brand-name advertisers to online platforms,” said Sean McManus, president, CBS Sports and News.

“The NCAA Tournament is consistently one of the most exciting experiences in all of sports,” said Suzie Reider, head of ad sales for YouTube. “Tournament coverage is a welcome addition to the site. We’re hopeful this partnership will introduce the tournament and NCAA basketball to an even wider audience than it already enjoys.”

As part of the deal, YouTube will encourage users to vote on their favorite round-by-round Pontiac “Game Changing Performances” at NCAASports.com. The top vote-earning team will be announced live on CBS during halftime of the championship game on Monday, April 2. The winning team’s school will receive a $100,000 general scholarship from Pontiac.

This is great for college athletics. It allows these athletes to showcase their success to a wide range of fans as well as have quick and easy access to their clips. I also like how Pontiac will grant a scholarship to the team with the most votes. This is a great move for the NCAA as well as YouTube... So what do you think?

Viral Video

Our viral video is about an HP battery burn. It shows the dangers of battery packs and just how hot they can really get. It is pretty gross so don't watch it if you have a weak stomache.

Burn

If you get anything from this, do not leave your laptop, adapter, or other wires anywhere where they may overheat or catch on fire, such as beds, couches, or on top of the pile of clothes on your floor. Thanks!

Social Media Project

I have always loved how certain songs can bring back great memories. I decided to make a video incorporating pictures and music from Spring Break in Acapulco. It was an amazing vacation and I wanted to capture that essence in the video. I also saw this as an opportunity to share my thoughts with the people I met on Spring Break. Thanks to technology, I was able to upload the video for all to see. I am glad I did this project because I will be able to go back and re-live Spring Break 2008 for years to come.

Ryan Center MySpace

Hey Everyone,

For my project I took my proposal to the next step. I had talked to my supervisor about the MySpace Page and she thought it was a great idea to fix it. As many of you remember the last one was really plain and boring. I re-did the Ryan Center's MySpace page and people at work agree it's much better. Here's the link to the page so you can check it out.
It's still a work in progress and I never have done a MySpace before so it's an interesting experience. If you have MySpace please friend us, maybe even make a comment on our wall saying how much better it looks :) or if you can post some comments on this post of any other ideas we could use some more student input.

Social Media Project:

Hey guys,

For my final project, I chose to do something in Flickr.

I posted pictures that I have taken in Syria a few years ago. (I had to actually scan the pics up so the quality isn't great) My family is from Syria and my family and I usually spend a good portion of our summers there. People don't usually know too much about it so I thought I'd share the pictures. Also, I wanted to share what it's like there because I usually get questions like:

"do you ride camels there?"
"do you have cars?"
"does it really look like Aladin?"
"what types of clothes do you have to wear there?"

so check it out...heres the link

Semster Project

My semester project is based on the family business I am a part of. My father is a cabinet maker and he designs things for a wide range of customers. One thing we noticed is that potential clients wanted to see many different pictures of what he has done in the past.

We have a web site but it was difficult to get a wide range of pictures on the site and difficult to view them. I decided to make a flikr account that is linked to the web site that is clicked through.

I decided to make a Flikr account because the way you view pictures is very easy, and the format looks better than the website. It is also easier for my father to upload pictures if i am busy, which was difficult for him to do on our hosting site.

The end result would be for former clients to comment on the work he has done on the flikr site. Our previous clients like to go back and see their pictures on the web site and friends, this way they may be able to comment on the flikr site which potential clients would see.

Above is the website, please find the flikr link - i would like to see if it is easy to navigate to.

Creative Floral Designs, semester long project

Ever since she first began making flower arrangements for our home, I knew my Mom had a talent for what she did. She had never taken a class or studied at a university to receive a degree in the subject, but somehow she knew exactly how to compose beautiful flower arrangements; she has the knack. As her interest grew, my Mom experimented more and more with different styles and materials suitable for various decorative purposes within a home. Her friends began to recognize her unique ability and began requesting her assistance within their homes. Now that we have been assigned this social media project, I decided to help my Mom introduce herself and her pieces of work. I will create a MySpace page for my Mom and give her the opportunity to join one of the largest social networks in the world and share her passion for creating flower arrangements. Hope you enjoy and feel free to friend her!

Semester Project

Since I've been pretty tied up with school and work, I haven't had much chance to travel as much as I would have liked. I have decided to follow my brothers road trip that he is currently on.  He is with his girlfriend who is from Paris and and she has never seen any of America.  After the road trip they are both moving to Paris.  I will be posting different pics with a little description on my blog once they send them to me.

Myspace Challenges in China

I found this article from market watch.com it explains the challenges that myspace is having in China. The fact that the Chinese government censors content will probably have to do with lack of success of MySpace in China. Thought it was a intersting article about the cultural differences from the United States and China.

Social Media Project

Second semester of my junior year I went to study abroad at Bond University in Queensland, Australia. On my way back home to the U.S. I went to New Zealand with three of my best friends. We rented a RV and circled the South Island of New Zealand for 10 days. The trip was absolutely amazing and we had an awesome time. Here is a photo album that I have put together to share for my Social Media Project.

Facebook asks users to translate new versions for free

I found this article on Google News today. It states that Facebook is asking its users to help translate the site into Japanese, Turkish, Chinese, Portuguese, Swedish and Dutch! These new translated sites will join the Spanish, French and German sites that will launch earlier this year. Although asking its users is a great way to make them feel involved as well as extremely inexpensive, Facebook has come across some major grammatical errors with the newly launched sites. The article states:

"Coolness aside, and many users are embracing the idea, other social networks aren't "crowdsourcing" translation. The move is generating mounting criticism online, where some users question whether amateurs can produce good translations. Critics complain of sloppiness and skimping, even as Facebook says it is improving service in an innovative way."

If Facebook can fix all of the technical and grammatical kinks, do you think this idea of involving the users this way is a good idea?

Testing Blog it

Seeing if this works

Blog It

This is an interesting new feature from facebook the software company Six Apart is offering. Six Apart is the software company behind blogging platforms TypePad, Movable Type, and Vox, has launched a new Facebook application called "Blog It." Facebook members who install the application can post to multiple blogging services at one time, update their Facebook status in sync with micro-blogging services like Twitter, and have updates from the app appear in their Facebook Mini-Feeds.

This feature seems like it would be very useful, especially for facebook members who are active bloggers. Where I find many of the apps they offer on facebook annoying, this one could actually be very useful. Here is the site where I found out about this http://www.news.com/8301-13577_3-9919685-36.html, and here is the main page for Six Apart http://www.sixapart.com/. Check it out, it also shows the format it will feature on the first link.

Semester long project....

Some of you know may know this, but most of you don't. Earlier in the semester I went to Austin, Texas for a job interview. It wasn't a typical type of job interview. It was one of me competing in a videogame competition to attempt to get chosen for the second season of the first ever world wide videogame league. The league is called the Championship Gaming Series, and there are 18 teams that compete worldwide in four different games. I was chosen to the San Francisco OPTX franchise to compete in a racing game. I will be moving to Los Angeles right after I graduate to prepare for the season. It'll be televised live on DirecTV on channel 101. I get a yearly salary for 6-8 weeks of work plus the opportunity of splitting $500,000 with my team if my team wins the final. One of the requirements in my contract is to post at least 1 blog each week about anything. I've done about 7-8 so far about random stuff (mostly gaming related). I'm also planning on doing some marketing related work to promote the team while I'm down there. The team website is www.sfoptx.com and you can see my mug on there and everything else there is to know.
I found a link related to blogging. I thought the most interesting part of it was where it discussed how to deal with negative feedback. This is the link if you would like to check it out.

Dianna's Blog

Hello Everyone,

Since I love photography and lots of colors, I decided to do a blog on both. I have this new digital camera I just purchased last month and it has some really cool features/effects which enables me to choose an accent color on the pictures I choose to take.

Basically, I will be posting up random pictures with an accent color and describe the meaning of the photo and color. I hope you find it interesting.

Come by.... & have a nice weekend!
